Lentil Loaf

Bad Lentil Loaf! Mashed potatoes & gravy and green beans were great. Lentil loaf not so much. What doesn’t work: Lentil loaf cut in 3 very thin slices, each slice spread all over with some kind of sweet berry jam/purée/mash (consistency & texture of jam/apple butter), like jam on toast. Were they trying to cover up old dried-out lentil loaf or what? Waitress said it was supposed to be a thick, sweet tomato sauce. Coulda fooled me. Too sweet, no tomato flavor at all! Was it supposed to be like a recipe of beef meatloaf topped with tomato sauce? I’ve never had meatloaf slices spread all over with jam like on toast. Moreover, edges of my lentil loaf slices were hard and dry—didn’t even taste anything like lentil, nor like it contained any of the ingredients (carrots, mushrooms etc) listed hereinabove. The description of meal does not specify any tomato purée spread all over each of the lentil slices. No resemblance to picture either! My suggestion: (1) instead of 3 thin lentil loaf slices, make it 2 thicker slices. (2) Serve tomato purée (or better yet a compote) on side, or skip altogether (because if they’re trying to simulate meatloaf, shouldn’t loaf already be topped on outside with a tomato-ey sauce a la meatloaf?). (3) Serve a side of gravy plus drizzle a bit over loaf This lentil loaf needs major work!!! (Note: I’ve given great reviews before on Yelp in years past, even when we first started coming here, but shouldn’t food be improving, not declining? We’ve come here many times before, both big and small parties—shouldn’t loyalty go both ways? Prices are more expensive than ever, and this pretend-lentil loaf is not worth it!)
